Homemaker services are non-medical home care focused on the household itself: preparing meals, light housekeeping, laundry, dishes, and keeping a senior's home safe, clean, and livable. It is often the first home care service families bring in, and often the one that lets a parent stay in their own house for years longer.
Havenwood Care provides homemaker services throughout Hartford County from our office in Farmington. We are a Connecticut-licensed homemaker-companion agency (DCP HCA #0002903), which means this is not a side offering for us. It is literally what our state license is for.
Or call us. We will explain your options and exact pricing in one conversation.
Long before a parent asks for help, the home starts reporting it. Families usually call us about homemaker services after noticing a few of these:
The refrigerator has changed. Spoiled food, expired items, or almost nothing in it. Cooking for one is hard; cooking with arthritis or fatigue is harder.
They are eating less, or eating worse. Toast for dinner is common, quiet, and corrosive to health. Regular prepared meals change everything downstream.
Laundry and dishes are piling up. Not from neglect, but because carrying a basket downstairs or standing at the sink has become genuinely difficult.
The house was always spotless, and now it is not. For a parent whose home was their pride, this change carries real grief. Restoring order restores dignity.
Clutter is becoming a fall hazard. Piles, cords, and blocked walkways are how bathrooms and hallways turn dangerous.
You spend every visit cleaning. If your time with your parent has become chore time, homemaker services give you your relationship back.
A homemaker is not a cleaning service. A cleaning crew moves through an empty house in an hour; a homemaker works alongside your loved one, keeps them company, learns their routines, and notices what a stranger never would: appetite changes, new confusion, a limp that was not there last week. The household tasks are the vehicle. The consistent, watchful presence is the value.
Homemaker services are non-medical and do not include hands-on personal care. If your loved one also needs help with bathing, dressing, or mobility, our personal care service covers it, and one caregiver can do both in a single visit. For errands, grocery runs, and seasonal tasks beyond routine housekeeping, see chore support.
It starts with a phone call. Tell us what the house is telling you, and we will tell you what a sensible schedule looks like and exactly what it costs, in that first conversation. Then we visit the home, build a written plan around your loved one's routines and standards (their standards, not ours), and match a caregiver you approve before visits begin.
Most homemaker clients start with two or three visits per week. It is the gentlest possible introduction to home care: no hands-on help to accept, just meals cooked, a house kept, and company kept. If needs grow, the same plan expands into personal care or companion care without changing agencies, and usually without changing caregivers.
Most agencies make you sit through a sales visit to hear a price. Here are ours:
| Shift Length | Rate |
|---|---|
| 2 to 3 hour visits | From $65/hour |
| 4+ hour shifts | From $34/hour |
| 8-hour shifts | From $30/hour ($240 per shift) |
Homemaker services are billed at our companion-level rates. Rates are starting points, confirmed in your first phone call, before any home visit. Visits that include hands-on personal care are quoted at our personal care rates. A 10-hour weekly minimum applies to hourly care.
Most families pay privately. Long-term care insurance often covers homemaker services; we help you verify benefits and provide the documentation your insurer requires. Homemaker services are also among the supports covered by the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders (CHCPE) for eligible seniors; we can help you understand whether your loved one may qualify.

We learn how your loved one likes things done, from how the towels are folded to what Sunday dinner should be, and we do it their way.
Consistency is the point. Your loved one gets a small, familiar team, not a rotating cast.

When more help is needed, the plan expands into personal care or around-the-clock support without starting over.
